Choose a day that\u2019s reasonably warm (above 10\u00b0c) and dry.<\/div>\n<div>This varnish isn\u2019t suitable for decking though.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>How to prepare wood for varnishing:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>1. You will need to remove old stain or varnish by sanding it down. Use 120 grit sandpaper and sand away the old finish.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>2. Wipe down the surface with white spirit and a cloth to remove the leftover dust.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>If your wood is brand new, you will need to sand it to remove loose wood and clean with white spirit.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Application:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>1. Thoroughly stir your varnish to make sure it\u2019s smooth and there\u2019s no lumpy bits.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>2. Test it on a small patch of your door. It\u2019s clear varnish but it may still darken the natural colour of your wood so make sure you\u2019re happy with it.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>3. If you are, start painting with a brush. Go in the direction of the grain and for best results, apply two or three coats. Wait eight hours between each coat.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>4. Before you apply your last coat, lightly sand the surface and use white spirit to remove the excess dust. This will give you a nice smooth finish. Your last coat will be dry in four hours.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Cleaning<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Once your varnish is dry, you\u2019ll be able to clean your door as normal. Keep on top of the dirt and grime for a friendly welcome to your home.
